Soybeans: Slugs (Various species)Pub 812: Field Crop Protection Guide > Pub 812: Soybeans > Slugs Field Crop Protection Guide 2011-2012, Order 2011-2012 publication Table of ContentsDescriptionJuveniles and adults are soft-bodied, legless, greyish or mottled in appearance and have a slimy or gelatinous covering that helps keep them from drying out. The head has two pairs of tentacles. Slugs usually range from 1-3 cm in length but can reach up to 10 cm. Integrated Pest Management OptionsNo chemical control available. Slugs often avoid contact by feeding below ground, and dew and rainfall easily wash any product used away from the slugs and leaves. Removing crop residue will help expose slugs to the elements. Tillage will also disturb their habitat and expose them to predators. See OMAFRA Publication 811, Agronomy Guide for Field Crops,
for rotation and tillage recommendations. Related Links...
