Seed Treatment
This disease can occur on all soil types but crop losses are greatest
in cold, wet, clay soils. Try to minimize soil compaction and remove
excess moisture through increased drainage. Plant seed when soil
temperatures are above 13°C (55°F). Treat seed with metalaxyl
or metalaxyl-M. There is no known resistance but there is some degree
of tolerance available in varieties. Consult with your seed company
and the Ontario Oil and Protein Seed Crop Committee Variety Trial
Results at www.gosoy.ca for variety
profiles. Crop rotation has limited effect. Pythium control
is less affected by product rate.
