Integrated Pest Management Options
Seed Treatment
Select soybean varieties that have both specific resistance (Rps
genes such as 1K and 1C) and good partial resistance (tolerance)
to all races of Phytophthora. Consult with your seed company
and the Ontario Oil and Protein Seed Crop Committee Variety Trial
Results at www.gosoy.ca for variety profiles. This disease is primarily
controlled through resistant varieties. Crop losses are greatest
in cold, wet, clay soils. Try to minimize soil compaction and remove
excess moisture through improved drainage. A small amount of tillage
will help warm the soil and improve surface drainage. Rotate soybeans
with corn and wheat. Plant seen when soil temperatues are above
13°C.
