Integrated Pest Management Options
Seed Treatment
Cool, wet spring conditions favour infection. Resistant varieties
are not available. Minimize soil compaction and remove excess moisture
through increased drainage. A small amount of tillage will help
warm soil and improve surface drainage. Rotate with corn and wheat.
Plant high quality seed when soil temperatures are above 13°C
(55°F). Fungicide seed treatment recommended. Mounding or ridging
soil at the base of the plants produces adventitious roots that
can minimize losses.
