Introduction
Excerpt from Agronomy Guide for Field CropsOrder OMAFRA Publication 811: Agronomy Guide for Field CropsThis guide is designed to be a reference for detailed information related to the production, pest management, harvest and storage of the field crops produced in Ontario. Its content exceeds that of its forerunner, OMAFRA Publication 296, Field Crop Recommendations, which is no longer in print. This is the first edition of this publication. Basic crop scouting procedures and the proper initiation of on-farm trials are outlined in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 discusses various aspects of soil management and fertilizer uses that are common to all field crops in Ontario. The remainder of the publication focuses on each field crop commodity separately, dealing with tillage, variety selection, planting, fertility, harvesting, storage, weed control, insect and disease information and other crop problems specific to each commodity. A final chapter on stored grain management focuses on proper grain storage and the control of stored grain insect pests. Colour photos have been included as an additional diagnostic tool.
Please note that this book does not provide recommendations regarding
specific pesticide products for the control of insects, diseases and
weeds. For such information, refer to OMAFRA
Publication 812, Field Crop Protection Guide, and Publication
75, Guide to Weed Control. Updates to this publication will be made available on the OMAFRA Web site at www.omafra.gov.on.ca/ english. | Top of Page | For more information:Toll Free: 1-877-424-1300 Local: (519) 826-4047 E-mail: ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca |
