Introduction

Septoria leaf blotch in oats can cause severe damage in all recommended varieties. The disease is recognized by the appearance of mottled, light and dark brown, elongated blotches on the leaf blade, extending to the leaf sheath and culm. Advanced stages on the culm turn black, and the weakened culm breaks over easily, resulting in damage due to lodging. Avoid planting oats after oats or mixed grains. Refer to OMAFRA Publication 812, Field Crop Protection Guide, for fungicide options. (Order OMAFRA Publication 812)
