This figure shows that defoliation will affect yield depending on what stage the plants are at when defoliation occurs. Yield losses will be highest the later defoliation occurs during the growing season and by how much defoliation occurs. 100% defoliation at flowering to pod fill stages can result in up to 60% yield loss, while up to 50% defoliation during the vegetative stages will result in less than 10% yield loss.
