Conventional Tillage Program

Preparation/Tillage/Seeding

    • Glyphosate treatment
      - chemical
      - application
    • mouldboard ploughing
    • secondary tillage (will vary with soil type)
      - disc
      - cultivate
      - harrow/level
    • drilling companion crop (if any) and small forage seeds OR Brillion seeding if direct seeded
    • extra pass for large forage seed (brome/orchard etc.) if needed
    • packing/rolling if not done in seeding pass

Seed Costs

    • forage seed (legumes and grasses)
    • inoculant if needed
    • companion crop seed (cereal)

Fertilizer

    • lime (if any)
    • fertilizer through drill (often 11-52-0 or 8-32-16)
    • broadcast nitrogen (if any)

Removal of companion crop

    • If taken as forage cutting/baling/wrapping or chop-ping
    • plastic costs (if any)
    • hauling

OR

    • If taken as grain
      - combining /trucking
      - baling straw/ hauling

OR

    • If direct seeded
      - cutting/baling/hauling as hay or silage

Maintenance fertilizer application once pasture is established

    • P or K based on soil test
    • N if low legume stand

       

No-Till Program

Seeding

      • Glyphosate treatment
        - chemical
        - application

    Seed Cost

    - forage seed
    - inoculant if needed

    Fertilizer

    - materials
    - application

     

    Frost Seeding Program
