OMAFRA Continues to Support Organic

Minister Dombrowsky attended the annual general meeting of the Organic Council of Ontario in March 2008 to announce $200,000 in funding from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs. This funding is to determine how to help people - like traditional producers and processors - convert to organics. This project will identify new market opportunities and develop education and training materials to help new farmers to enter the industry. The funding will also provide resources for market research and benchmarking of the Ontario organic sector. OMAFRA also supported the council with a grant of $200,000 in March of 2007. Other support for organic includes several research projects funded through the OMAFRA New Directions program.
