The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of a new minor use label expansion for Cruiser 5FS Seed Treatment Insecticide to include all of the crops in crop subgroups 6A and 6B which includes succulent beans and peas. Cruiser was already registered on soybeans, dry beans, wheat, barley, sunflowers and corn in Canada.

This will provide succulent bean and pea growers with a much needed pest management tool to manage key insect pests including wireworm, seed corn maggot and potato leafhopper. Furthermore, the registration of Cruiser seed treatment for succulent bean and pea producers can significantly reduce overall pesticide applications to these crops because it can in most cases reduce the need for foliar spraying of insecticides early in the season.

CRUISER 5 FS seed treatment insecticide is not for domestic commercial or on-farm use and is labeled for import use only. Cruiser can be applied at 50 - 83 mL product per 100 kg seed. Additionally Cruiser can be used as a seed treatment with two (2) other registered seed treatments already registered for succulent beans and peas including Maxim 480 FS and Apron XL LS seed treatment fungicides.

CRUISER 5 FS seed treatment insecticide should be used in an IPM program and in rotation with other management strategies. Follow all other precautions and directions for use on the Cruiser 5 FS label.

This minor use submission was sponsored by the minor use office of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in collaboration with the Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers and the Ontario Food Processors Association. We also wish to thank the personnel of Syngenta Crop Protection Canada for their support of this registration and the personnel of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency for evaluating and approving this important pest management tool in a timely and expeditious manner.
