2002 Postharvest Quality Evaluations of Strawberry Varieties

Author: Dr. Jennifer DeEll - Fresh Market Quality Program Lead/OMAFRA
Creation Date: 01 June 2003
Last Reviewed: 01 June 2003

During the 2002 strawberry season, 21 varieties and new selections were evaluated for postharvest berry quality. In collaboration with Pam Fisher (OMAFRA), berries were harvested three times from four farms in Southwestern Ontario. The results are presented in the following two tables. Overall, 'Evangeline', 'L'Acadie', 'L'Authentique Orléans', 'Mira', 'St-Pierre', and 'Yamaska' had the most favorable postharvest quality characteristics, whereas 'Kent', 'Sable', and 'Winona' had the least favorable.
