Introduction

Both insects and diseases can attack your lawn, and though their symptoms can be similar, their control measures are quite different. It is important, therefore, that you properly identify the source of your lawn problem.

Diseases are seldom a problem in the average home lawn. They are more often found in lawns which contain a large proportion of fine turfgrasses, such as Kentucky bluegrass or creeping bentgrass, or those which are maintained in top quality appearance. In new subdivisions where lawns are sodded, disease problems usually do not occur until several years after establishment.

Use the following information to identify and control grass diseases. The table at right shows when damage occurs.
