History

A member of the mint family and a native Ontario species which is sometimes grown as an ornamental plant. The weedy form of this plant usually occurs in dense patches in poorly drained areas of a field.

Life Cycle

Perennial, reproducing by seed and underground rhizomes.

Distinguishing Characteristics

It is distinguished by its square stems (a feature of all mint species), its thick, white, brittle underground roots (rhizomes) and hairly leaves.

Herbicide Control in Soybeans

Control in Soybeans

Limited work as been done on control of Marsh hedge-nettle in soybean. In one field trial, CLASSIC and FIRSTRATE provided over 80% control of Marsh hedge-nettle (Table 1).
