Black Light Trap Captures from Harrow, Ridgetown and Centralia, Ontario. Current up to July 16th, 2009

Trap captures have been reasonably low in general. The only important pests captured so far have been winter cutworm, ECB, true armyworm, corn earworm and western bean cutworm. Most of the activity has been from the Harrow trap. European corn borer levels have been low though Harrow's trap indicates a bit of a peak flight during the week of June 19 to 26th, while Ridgetown's trap is just starting to pick up some activity and Centralia appears to have had a peak flight during the first week of July. True armyworm adults were captured mostly at Centralia. Winter cutworm, also known as greater yellow underwing moth has been active and is the pest the created a stir back in the fall and winter of 2007 as it munched on alfalfa stands in Michigan and a small pocket in Ontario during the winter under the snow cover. Though we are catching quite a few, this may not indicate a concern, as we did catch quite a few last year too with no reports of damage in either Michigan or Ontario. And finally a few corn earworm moths (at Harrow) and western bean cutworm moths (at Harrow and Centralia) are starting to trickle in.
