Pest of the Week - White Millipedes?
Lots of calls coming in this week about tiny "white millipedes" feeding on both corn and soybean seed and seedlings. If they are very slender, have just as many legs as millipedes and have small antenna at the front of their head, they are most likely immature millipedes. Just like adult millipedes, these feed on germinating seeds and seedling roots. Poor emergence may occur in areas of the fields with higher organic matter. Seed treatments like Poncho and Cruiser have no activity on these. Re-plant situations are rare. As long as the weather turns warm and dry again, plants should be able to outgrow some of the injury. | Top of Page | For more information:Toll Free: 1-877-424-1300 Local: (519) 826-4047 E-mail: ag.info.omafra@ontario.ca |
