Alert for Fusarium and

As the wheat crop heads towards "heading" (sorry for the
pun - it was late), be on the alert for Fusarium and other leaf/head
diseases especially if the wet weather conditions remain. As in previous
years, Fusarium updates can be obtained at The Ontario Weather Network
(OWN).
Another OWN service is a site specific DONcast calculator which is
available through subscription. Bookmark the OWN site and keep abreast
of your Fusarium risk.
Continue scouting for other wheat diseases such as Septoria, powdery
mildew, spot blotch, etc and determine whether a fungicide application
is necessary (is the flag leaf at risk?) at this time. If not re-evaluate
(scout) these fields for leaf diseases on a regular basis and remember
to take Fusarium risk into consideration as well.
