Site Specific Monitoring

  • Based on historical experience

Monitoring Techniques Thresholds

  • Examination of leaves using hand lens
  • 10 leaves from each of 10 trees minimum
  • Bronzing is more grey than that caused by ERM
  • Webbing is obvious in high infestations
  • Threshold is 5-10 active mites (ERM and TSSM) per leaf in July

Additional Notes

  • Hosts include apple, pear, plum, apricot and cherry
  • Drought may cause migrations from grasses to fruit trees

Commonly Used Control Options

  • Summer miticides
  • Levels of predatory mites should be considered before controls used.
