Regional Information

  • Pest activity is extremely site specific and not relevant for regional crop report
  • Canker is likely to infect most peach plantings eventually - a low priority disease after the first few years

Site Specific Monitoring

  • Visual monitoring
  • In most Ontario peach areas, it is not possible to situate new plantings away from sources of infection.
  • Protect young trees from damage and follow best management practices for the disease.

  • Visual monitoring, no established thresholds

Additional Notes

  • Leucostoma species of fungi are weak parasites and infect through wounds
  • Protect young trees especially from damage

Commonly Used Control Options

  • Thiodan dip new trees
  • Protect new plantings from insect and rodent damage
  • Plant disease-free nursery stock promptly
  • Prune in warm dry weather so cuts heal quickly
