Chemical Family sulfonylurea/sulfonylurea
Crop and/or Non-Crop Registrations Field corn. Not for use on sweet or seed corn.
Sensitive Weeds Quack grass, proso millet, green and yellow foxtail, fall panicum, barnyard grass, witch grass, redroot pigweed (incl. triazine-resistant) and long-spined sandbur.
Uptake and Translocation Following foliar application, nicosulfuron/rimsulfuron rapidly absorbed through the leaves and translocated in both xylem and phloem
Basis of Selectivity  Inhibition of acetolactate synthase (ALS) enzyme in susceptible plants leads to a rapid cessation of cell division and growth. Tolerant species rapidly convert nicosulfuron/rimsulfuron to non-phytotoxic metabolites.
Application Methods Postemergent, within the 1- to 6-leaf stage of corn.
Residual Activity Rapid soil microbial degradation of nicosulfuron. Refer to notes on rimsulfuron for information on its soil residual activity.
Unique Characteristics Emerged grasses will be controlled by nicosulfuron/rimsulfuron, but subsequent germinating grass weeds will not be controlled. A non-ionic surfactant must be added at 0.2% v/v. Typical symptoms of plant death (chlorosis, necrosis) occur 5-10 days after application, depending on growing conditions. Do not use on corn hybrids with a crop heat unit (CHU) rating of 2500 or less, or in geographic regions with 2500 or less average seasonal CHU.
