Business Development for Farm Businesses

Agricultural Skills Development

Farm businesses that identify the need in their Action Plan, will be able to access cost-share funding to take training and skills development intended to support greater farm business viability.

Eligible costs include:

  • Tuition
  • Textbooks
  • Travel expenses

Established Farm Businesses

  • Eligible farm businesses may receive cost-share funding up to 50 per cent to a maximum of $3,000 for each of the following:
    • farm related training
    • training related to leadership and governance
    Total funding available under Agriculture Skills Development is $6,000.

New Farmers

  • Cost-share is 75 per cent to a maximum of $4,500 for each of the following:
    • farm related training
    • leadership and governance training.

Total funding available under Agriculture Skills Development is $9,000.

A new farmer is defined as a producer that has had no farming income two and three years prior to the year of enrolment in the Business Development for Farm Business Program. Farming income in the year prior to enrolment is permitted.
