Napropamide

Trade Name: Devrinol

Group 15

Site of Action: Conjugation of acetyl co-enyme A

Symptoms
Following PPI application:

  • Seedlings usually fail to emerge
  • If a seedling does emerge, napropamide causes its roots to be knobby (short and thick)
  • Lateral root growth is inhibited and the root tips become necrotic
  • Because of poor root function, plants lack vigour and appear pale with purple veins and stems
  • Strawberry runner rooting may be inhibited

Uptake and Translocation

  • Absorbed through the roots of germinating weeds
  • Translocated upward through seedling

Persistence

  • Injury may be observed in fall cover crops
  • Deep ploughing will minimize any carryover effect
