This is an oriental fruit moth larva. Oriental fruit moth larvae are very similar in appearance to those of the plum curculio. Oriental fruit moth larvae possess an "anal comb" (described above),plum curculio larvae do not. In addition, this type of "flagging" damage to shoots, is typical of oriental fruit moth.

It is critical to correctly identify these pests, as the biology and management strategies are different.
