Site of Action: Inhibitors of acetolactate synthase (ALS) and also called acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS)

Symptoms
Following POST emergent application:

  • Rapid growth inhibition occurs
  • 3- 7 days later, sometimes sooner, chlorosis occurs
  • 7- 14 days later the growing point dies
  • 14- 21 days later the plant dies completely

Following PRE emergent application:

  • Seed germination is not inhibited
  • The shoot growing point usually quickly undergoes chlorosis and necrosis, although there are some seedlings that can remain green for 2 weeks before dying

Uptake and Translocation

  • Absorbed through roots, shoots and foliage
  • Translocated within the plant

Persistence

  • Short to moderate persistence
  • May cause carryover injury onto sugar beets
