Site of Action: Inhibitors of 5-enolpyruvaylshikimimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSP)

Symptoms
Leaves

  • Arrow-shaped, puckered, upward cupped
  • May be interveinal chlorosis
  • Symptoms from point where herbicide contacted leaf to the end of the shoot
  • Second year may be severely strapped

Shoots

  • Shortened internodes
  • Numerous lateral shoots resulting in bushy appearance
  • Second year early shoot growth is stunted

Uptake and Translocation

  • Absorbed through foliage
  • Translocated throughout the plant

Persistence

  • None- crops can be planted or seeded directly into treated areas following application
  • Half life in field: 47 days

Often Confused With
Eutypa Dieback – trunk cankers with fruiting bodies; necrotic flecks on leaves

Period of Activity
Symptoms develop about 2 weeks after exposure.

Management Notes
Applications should be made before the end of grape bloom, or with shielded sprayers or wiper equipment.
