This is a picture of Rhizoctonia. Rhizoctonia and white rot can both cause bottom and head rot. To distinguish the two look at the sclerotia:

• Rhizoctonia- firm, small, brown sclerotia.
  
• White rot- slimy, large, black sclerotia.
