Test Your Knowledge - Brassica

Test your disease identification skills by trying to distinguish between these commonly confused diseases:

Diseased cabbage leaf with V-shaped yellow lesions

Is this disease...?

or

That’s Right!

Sorry.

This is a picture of black rot. Black rot infects veins of brassica crops causing them to collapse and turn black. Leaf symptoms of Fusarium yellows sometimes appear similar to black rot except the vascular tissue turns brown instead of black, and leaf dieback progresses from the petiole or midrib outwards. To further distinguish black rot, notice its characteristic V-shaped lesions on the leaf margins.
