Site of Action: Inhibitors of acetolactate synthase (ALS) and also called acetohydroxyacid synthase (AHAS)


POST application:
  • Plants quickly stop growing
  • After 3-5 days leaves appear chlorotic following by chlorosis at the growing point
  • After 7- 21 days, there is usually complete foliar necrosis and plant death
  • Certain susceptible species may stay green but are stunted

Uptake and Translocation

Following foliar application:
  • Rapidly absorbed through the leaves
  • Translocated in both xylem and phloem


  • Limited residual activity after application
  • Half-life in field: 40 days
  • May cause carryover injury onto vegetable crops the year after application
