Damage occurs early in the season and heavily damaged fruit aborts; frass on the outside of the fruit has a strong odour. The larvae is black in colour with seven pairs of prolegs.
There are feeding holes on surface with frass (under 1/8th of an inch deep) but no internal tunnelling.
